- Origin
- Spontaneous mutation of Golden Delicious, selected in the Netherlands by Reinders. Today it is one of the most widely grown Golden clones in Europe.
- Ripening time
- Second half of September, at the same time as standard Golden; a single pick is usually enough.
- Tree
- Medium to good vigour, open habit. Comes into bearing quickly and gives high, consistent yields, with little tendency to alternate bearing; responds well to thinning. Susceptible to scab, moderately to powdery mildew, slightly to canker. Good pollinators: Gala, Fuji, Red Delicious.
- Fruit
- Medium-large size (75–80 mm, 190–210 g), truncated-conical shape, sometimes slightly asymmetrical. Smooth, thin skin, green at harvest and golden yellow when ripe, with a possible light pink blush on the side exposed to the sun. Creamy-white flesh, crunchy, juicy and very sweet, supported by good acidity.
- Storage
- Until February in normal cold storage, until the following summer in controlled atmosphere. The fruit is sensitive to bruising and must be handled with care; a late harvest reduces its storage life.
- Overall assessment
- Reliable, productive variety with attractive fruit and excellent eating quality. Selected for a smoother skin with less russeting than standard Golden, it can still show russeting in humid or lowland areas; it gives the best results in hills and mountains.
